Contingent (Short) | 2021

‘Occurring or existing only if (certain circumstances) are the case; dependent on.’

 

It is to my understanding the more I grow up that this quick definition of contingent is one of the few permanences in life. Where it is human nature to want to concentrate only on the light of the world, it is in our darkest periods that we learn the most, we grow the most, we evolve the most. 

 

Therefore ironically it is the darkness that makes the light more beautiful.

 

This relationship has fascinated me for some time; how much the juxtaposition of the two is a law of nature, and even though it could be very easy for me to work with light, it is actually the shadow that proves to be more mouldable and adaptable. However one cannot live without the other, they are essential to each other, a co-dependant relationship, a contingency.

it is also called daring. For when the monad manifests unification,

the dyad steals in and manifests separation’.                  Iamblichus

​

Pythagorean philosophers stated the Monad, or single unit, as the number of ‘intellect’, a faculty affiliated to The One. As the quote explains, it manifests unification of everything and all, more specifically moral wisdom. Therefore it is only natural that the Dyad, which is to say two units, is considered as most daring, for it signifies a separation from moral wisdom.
